White Collar Boxing
I had trained at many different clubs briefly and always wanted to fight in the ring. To challenge myself and to experience that epic event in your life.
At the age of 33 my friend sent me a link to apply to fight in a Ultra White Collar Boxing event in Leicester. Eight weeks professional training at Rendall Munroe’s Gym and roughly one thousand watching on the big night!

I finally got in the ring to spar after six weeks of training and my opponent was a big, strong guy, bigger then me. What could I do now? I had to spar, I went in focused as I was scared and felt I came out good after the sparring ended. However, later on I found out, this was to be my opponent on the white collar boxing fight night and I knew he would come back stronger …and he did.
Eventually the day came of the white collar boxing fight night and we sat for hours in the changing rooms preparing and warming up with the coaches. My name came over the mic so I started walking down into the arena and walking through the crowd. My legs were more than wobbly at this point and it would be a victory just to get to the ring, I couldn’t even feel my legs.
I’m totally in the moment, no one else around, just me, the ref and my opponent. Total fixation, no way out, just stick to the game plan and do your best.
I was attacked ferociously, repeatedly, I just kept my guard up and weathered the storm skipping backwards then coming back with the jab straight after, jab, jab, jab, jab straight! Occasionally jabbing through the attack …and then attack!
It was three rounds of intense fighting, toe to toe, a great fight. By the end of the fight I was too exhausted to even think who had won! When the bell rang out the referee lifted my hand, it still took a couple of seconds to sink in …the rush was unbelievable!
The buzz got better and better as the evening went on. Talking to friends and family about the fight. Congratulating other fighters and drinking beers.
